Migrating from Competitors
Step-by-step technical guide for migrating offloaded media from WP Offload Media or Acowebs to Clockwork Offloader with zero downtime.
Overview & Zero-Downtime Guarantee
Switching between WordPress offload plugins has historically been risky, requiring tedious re-uploading of gigabytes of media files or complex database search-and-replace scripts.
Clockwork Offloader Pro eliminates this friction with a Native 1-Click Migration Engine. When activated, Clockwork detects existing offload plugins, reads their bucket configurations and attachment metadata, and transfers tracking into Clockwork without re-uploading a single file.
Supported Migration Sources
- WP Offload Media™ (Delicious Brains / WP Engine): Complete detection of Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and DigitalOcean Spaces buckets, folder paths, and CloudFront CDN URLs.
- Acowebs Offload Media: Full metadata migration of attachments and thumbnail sets into Clockwork's high-speed tracking tables.
- Existing S3 / S3-Compatible Buckets: Automatic link-up for media libraries already resting in an S3 bucket matching standard WordPress folder layouts.
Method 1: 1-Click WordPress Admin Wizard
- Install and activate Clockwork Offloader Pro on your WordPress site. Leave your old offload plugin active temporarily.
- Navigate to Settings → Clockwork Offloader.
- If another offload plugin is active, Clockwork automatically displays the Migration Wizard prompt.
- Click Open Migration Tool. Clockwork displays a summary of detected attachments, bucket details, and storage paths.
- Click Start Migration. Clockwork processes the metadata in fast database batches with a real-time progress bar.
- Once the progress bar reaches 100%, verify a few images in your WordPress Media Library.
- Deactivate your previous offload plugin. All image URLs continue serving through your CDN edge seamlessly.
Method 2: High-Volume WP-CLI Migration
For large agencies, enterprise fleets, or sites with 50,000+ media items, you can run migrations directly via the command line to eliminate any chance of browser timeouts:
# Check migration status and detect existing plugins
wp clockwork-offloader migration status
# Run migration from WP Offload Media
wp clockwork-offloader migration run --source=wp_offload --batch-size=500
# Run migration from Acowebs Offload Media
wp clockwork-offloader migration run --source=acowebs --batch-size=500
# Verify attachment URLs and S3 connectivity
wp clockwork-offloader verify --limit=100 Multisite Network Migrations
On WordPress Multisite networks, migration can be executed across all network subsites with a single WP-CLI command:
wp clockwork-offloader migration run --source=wp_offload --all-sites
Subsite assets are preserved under their respective sites/{id}/ cloud paths without manual reconfiguration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my visitors experience broken images?
No. Because your media files in cloud storage remain completely unaltered, URLs transition seamlessly between plugins. Visitors continue downloading images from your CDN without interruption.
Can I roll back if I change my mind?
Yes. Clockwork Offloader reads competitor metadata without deleting or modifying the competitor's original database tables. If you ever need to rollback, simply deactivate Clockwork and reactivate your old plugin.
What if my media library has 100,000+ files?
Clockwork Offloader Pro includes unlimited media items on all plans. Unlike competitors that cap you at 20,000 or 40,000 items and charge escalating fees up to $799/yr, your Clockwork license never charges per-item taxes.
